Q: Have you protect your skin from UV radiation? (SA)

Based on a survey by Licorice, about 53.59 percent claimed very concerned about protecting their skin from UV radiation. When asked about have they protect their skin from UV radiation, 41.83 percent of them, said that they always did. Indonesian people tend to be afraid of their skin is dark. Therefore they always carry out the protection of the skin, especially for those who have to do outdoor activities.

 

Q: What is your intention to do UV radiation protection? (SA)

Besides afraid if skin becomes dark, 50.8 percent do UV protection to prevent skin problems. As mention before, UV radiation makes skin problems, ranging from sunburn, dry, wrinkled, until premature aging. While 45.02 percent want to prevent skin cancer, followed by want to prevent freckles on the skin with 29.08 percent.

So, how do Indonesians protect their skin from UV radiation?

Q: Do you wear sunscreen? (SA)

Sunscreen is known as a product that can use to protect skin from the sun’s UV rays. About 38.05 percent of Indonesians sometimes wear sunscreen. While 34.86 percent often wear sunscreen. This shows the awareness of the people of Indonesia in using sunscreen is still lacking. Most people only buy sunscreen products when traveling, go swimming, or go to the beach. Even indoors, UV rays can still penetrate the glass of the room. Also, Indonesians are quite lazy about using sunscreen because it is sticky and oily.

 

Q: What are you consider when choosing a sunscreen? (SA)

For those who often or sometimes wear sunscreen, about 61.66 percent consider that product contains high SPF (sun protection factor). They usually looking sunscreen with SPF values of 30 or higher. The SPF number is the level of protection the sunscreen provides against UVB rays, which are the main cause of sunburn. A higher SPF number means more UVB protection

Also, 26.69 percent consider sunscreen that is safe for the skin. It is because some people have sensitive skin. Some ingredients in sunscreen products may irritate the skin. So, always make sure to read the label.

 

Q: What else do you do to protect your skin from UV radiation? (SA)

Not only using sunscreen, but Indonesians also using another way to protect their skin. About 51 percent, use makeup products that contain SPF. Some cosmetics, such as moisturizers, lipsticks, and foundations contain sunscreen, but make sure to check the label’s makeup first.

Furthermore, 34.66 percent wearing long-sleeved shirts, They use it to cover the most skin and are the most protective. Many companies now even make clothing that’s lightweight, comfortable, and protects against UV rays even when wet. It tends to be more tightly woven, and some have special coatings to help absorb UV rays.

Last, 28.49 percent choose to wear a hat as another way to protect from UV rays. A hat with at least a 2- to 3-inch brim all around is ideal because it protects areas that are often exposed to intense suns, such as the ears, eyes, forehead, nose, and scalp.
