There are a lot of reasons training or courses were held. Of course, one main objective from training or course is to make the participants understand things, learn things or capable of doing such skills.
From the survey done by Licorice, we could learn a brief reason why Indonesian join a survey. To understand such things, let us take a deeper look at their preferred training, periods, and other indicators.

Q. What’s your aim in joining a course or training? (MA)
Skill Development
Respondents with a percentage of 29.94% join a course simply to develop their skills. This goal is considered not surprising since the objective of a course is to train its participants about specific lessons or skills.
With the growing educational standards, professionals are being replaced daily. This is mostly for those who have a low market value in terms of the skills that they bring to the job. Training programs are great for improving one’s set of skills and adding accomplishments and certifications to one’s CV. This makes sure that a person maintains a relevant market value in a job.
Mood Changer
With slight differences, 29.34% of respondents join the course to change their mood. This goal might be considered as unique. By this result, we can see that almost one-third of Indonesian see training programs or courses that may change their mood in some way.
For New Job
Other 15.17% of respondents join a course to develop a skill to move from a current job to a newer job or new place. Sometimes, a job move needs certain skills to be developed. So before moving to another job, some of the Indonesian will train themselves in training programs or courses.
If you are offered a new job or assignment, it is expected that you will do a great and successful job on it. As a result of this expectation, most professionals are driven into taking up training programs so that they can better understand the assignment, its requirements, the expectations and how to complete it successfully.
Add Different Perspective
According to the result, we can see that there are other reasons why Indonesian joining a course. Some of them mentioned that joining courses may add a different perspective. Training programs provide a platform where you can get to hear other people’s varying perspectives on different issues. This information is often from both the facilitators and participants. In some instances, you might even get information that you were not seeking initially, which you can then use to improve your business.

There were almost 30% of respondents joined the language course. This result shows that one-third of Indonesian want to develop their skills in other languages. For professionals, understanding other languages than their native is a must.
Meanwhile, respondents were also joining cooking with a percentage of 10.38%, computer with a percentage of 12.38% and mathematics with a percentage of 9.98%
Law and special certification are less-favored by most respondents. Most taken courses are language, computer, mathematics, and cooking.
Q. How is your intensity in attending the course or training? (SA)
Despite the non-participants, 16% of respondents attend courses almost every day. Meanwhile, About 14% of respondents attend course 4-5 times a week, while the other 13% attend course 2-3 times a week.
Almost the other 14% of respondents also attend the course once a week. This result shows that most Indonesian attend daily or weekly course schedule rather than monthly.
Q. How long is the period of your course or training? (SA)
Respondents with a percentage of 21% join a course for 1-3 months. About 17% of respondents attend less than a month of course. 3-6 months course period attended by 14.37% of respondents, while 6-12 months course period attended by 10.18% respondents.
It can be concluded that Indonesian mostly join a course with 1 month. A Course longer than 1 year barely favored by Indonesian.
Q. What kind of course or training are you joining? (SA)
According to this result, 32.34% of respondents join a particular skill training, while 16.97% of respondents are privately taught by a teacher. Learning privately from a teacher is considered the most effective way of understanding things. No wonder, the private teaching method is highly preferred.
14.37% of respondents utilized technological advancement by joining an e-learning class. 14.17% of respondents train themself, while about 13% of respondents were taught by their friends.
Q. What’s your main reason to quit a course? (MA)
It is also important to understand why Indonesian stop joining a course or training programs. According to the result, about 31% of respondents quit a course or training because they had no time anymore.
Meanwhile, 17.76% of respondents quit a course or training because they got no money. About 16% of respondents stop joining training because they had accomplished their goal, while the other 13% of respondents quit because of lifestyle change.
The Conclusion
Based on the survey, most Indonesian are interested in training or courses. Most taken courses are language, computer, mathematics, and cooking. The number of Indonesian who join a specific course or skill training is the highest among other courses or training.
About time preference, most Indonesian attend daily or weekly course schedule rather than monthly. Indonesian mostly join a course with 1-12 months period. A course longer than 1 year barely favored by Indonesian.
We can see that Indonesian have various goals in joining courses. But above all, their purpose is no different, mostly to develop their skill. On the contrary, most of them will quit a course or training if they had no money or time.
