Going For School or Work Could be ‘Unpleasant’ for Some Indonesian

Almost every morning, you have to wake from your peaceful sleep, then prepare yourself for the day. If you were a student, you should be getting ready for school for your education and future. If you were a worker, you’ll go to the office for a living.

But for some, ‘the journey’ to school or work isn’t always pleasant, as stated by some Indonesian. Licorice did a survey consisted of students and workers in 2019. They answer several questions regarding their experiences on their way to school. Are Indonesia ln satisfied with their trip to work or school? Check this survey out!

Q. Are you satisfied with your travel time to go to school or work? (SA)

When asked whether they are satisfied or not, 30.2% of respondents were very satisfied with their way to school or office Many Indonesian with a percentage of 50.8% were quite satisfied with their way to school or office.

Though most Indonesian are satisfied with their trip to school or office, there were 14% of respondents were still not satisfied with their daily trip to office or school. What makes them unsatisfied? Let’s look further at the next result!

Q. How long it takes for you to reach school/office? (SA)

When asked about travel time between house and school, 38.2% of respondents stated that they need 15 minutes of travel time to get to their office/school. 22% of respondents take about 20-25 minutes to reach their office or school.

Meanwhile about 15.4% of respondents need about 30-35 minutes to get to their school or office, while the other 6.2% need 40-45 minutes. A little percentage of Indonesian still needs to take more than 1 hour, which might be unpleasant.

Based on this result, we can conclude that most Indonesian take 15-45 minutes to get to their school or office.

Q. How long do you want to get to the office/school? (SA)

About Indonesian’s expected travel time to school or office, 52.6% of respondents would be glad if they only need 15 minutes to get to their school or office. Meanwhile, 19% of respondents want to take 20-25 minutes to get to their school or office.

Surely this duration could be considered short and pleasant enough for students or workers since they don’t have to wake up earlier, or to face boredom of long trip on their way to school or office

By this result, we can see that most Indonesian want to get to their school or office for less than 30 minutes, even though 10.8% of respondents are still happy if they can get to their school or office for 30-35 minutes.

Q. What kind of transportation do you use to get to school/office? (MA)

According to this result, wost of Indonesian with a percentage of 60.4% go to school or office by motorcycle. Next, 16.8% of respondents go to school or work on foot. There were only about 10% of Indonesian who take public transportation to go to the school or office.

The survey result pictured that most Indonesian go to school on the private vehicle rather than public transportation. This condition may be caused because of Indonesia’s lack of public transportation. There is a lot of public transportation that is inaccessible by Indonesian citizens in certain addresses. Many Indonesian cities are not well planned.

Q. What do you usually do on your way to school/work? (MA)

38.6% of Indonesian have to ride or drive their vehicle to go to the school or office. However, those who don’t ride or drive need various activities to kick out routine’s boredom.

When asked about their preferred activities on their way to school, 17% of respondents chose to play games, while 16% of respondents prefer to chat with their friends on their way to school or office. Some Indonesian also listen to songs, open social media or checking news from online portals while on their way to school.

Q. What are your complaints when commuting to and from school/office? (MA)

This question might answer most of Indonesian’s unpleasantness about their way to school. Many Indonesian with a percentage of 49.2% complain about the traffic jam they often face when going to school or office.

Well, traffic jam has been a classic problem for Indonesian people and governments, especially in big cities. In Jakarta for instance, you’ll probably find your ride stuck for several in minutes every morning from 6 – 9 a.m. Of course, this situation is frustrating since you have to deal with the traffic jam every day.

The other 19.2% of respondents claimed that they have problems being on time for their reasons, while the other 16.2% of respondents find it hard times to wake up early. There were 10.2% of respondents whose schools or offices are too far from their house.

Summary

From this survey, most Indonesian take 15-45 minutes to get to their school or office. But, they want to get to their school or office for less than 30 minutes.

Most Indonesian go to school or office by motorcycle. There were only about 10% of them who take public transportation to go to the school or office because of the lack of public transportation facilities.

This problem may be solved if the government city planners provide better infrastructure for public transportation. If public transportation is comfortable and accessible, most Indonesian will surely choose it for their daily commute to school or work.

Most Indonesian are satisfied with their trip to school or office. However, they still face a series of problems when commuting to school or office. The most mentioned problem is traffic jam.

If they don’t ride or drive their vehicle themself, Indonesian will do various activities such as playing games, chatting, opening social media networks, listening to music or reading news from online portals to kill their boredom.
