Will Product Gift Attract Indonesian Buyer?

Sometimes, a free gift from a product may attract buyers. No difference, Indonesian are also interested in receiving free gifts. But will free gifts attract Indonesian buyers?

Q. When you receive a free gift from a product or service, do you accept it? (SA)

Based on a survey by Licorice, about 75% of Indonesian would gladly accept any present or gift given to them. There are only 22% of them would consider first what kind of gift before accepting it. The rest 2-3% would refuse gifts or presents. It can be concluded that basically, Indonesian love accepting gifts.

Q. Have you ever purchased a product or service for the purpose of receiving a free gift? (SA)

Based on the survey, we can see that Indonesian are quite attracted to a product when it has a gift. There are about 43% of Indonesian stated that will buy a product to get additional gift quite often.

Meanwhile, 34% of Indonesian rarely buy products because of the gift. There were only 22% of respondents stated, they would not buy any product to get some gifts.

From those data, we can say that Indonesian don’t intentionally buy a product for its gift, but they would likely buy a product if the product provides additional gifts.

Q. When you receive a free gift from a product/service, what kind of free gift that makes you happy? (SA)

When asked about a gift that attracted them the most, about 20% of Indonesian said that they love getting daily needs/goods from the products they buy. The second preferred gift is a gift card or coupon, and the third is money.

Sometimes, product free gifts are associated with the brand. We usually see this example of associated gifts form fast-food chain gifts such as McDonald’s, KFC, and so on. But this kind of product gift seems does not really effective in attracting buyers. If the product brand is less recognized, adding gifts regarding the brand would not do much

Q. What kind of design do you think is the best for the gift offered by a product/service? (SA)

About 48% of respondents like getting a gift featured with famous or cute characters on it. There are only 24% of them as a gift with original character related to the brand, while about 14-15% of both respondents like it stamped with a product logo.

We could say that Indonesian love to get a gift featured with famous or cute characters more.

Q. If there is a campaign where products/services give cash prizes to lucky people, what types of campaigns would you like to participate in? (SA)

Despite any other gift options, money always has their point of interest that will attract buyers. But, there are certain conditions of money free gifts that preferred by buyers. About 29% of Indonesians prefer a smaller amount of money but more people would likely get the money. About 20% of Indonesian prefer extra huge Rp 100 million but for super lucky one people.

Thus, most Indonesian prefer a smaller amount of money prize with more chances rather than bigger money but smaller chances.

Q. Here are 4 ways to participate in a campaign to get a free gift from a product/service. when you participate in the campaign, what kind of campaign you will participate in? (SA)

Based on the result, about 62% liked to get a gift right after they completed the purchase. There are still love getting “you are lucky” messages before completing to get any product gifts. Only about 17% of Indonesia would like to hang their luck on lottery prize. Most Indonesian prefer direct gifts.

The Verdict

Indonesian do not intentionally buy a product for its gift, but they would likely buy a product if the product provides additional gifts. However, there are several points that should be considered when producing a product with additional gifts in Indonesia. Most Indonesian prefer a gift from a product that can be used for their daily life. Product manufacturer doesn’t always have to make a product gift related to the brand. This is because of Indonesian like getting a gift featured with famous or cute characters more than labeling the gift with related products.

If money was presented as a gift, most Indonesian prefer a smaller amount of money prize with more chances rather than bigger money but smaller chances. Indonesian also think that they better get the gift directly just after the purchase was completed.
